Days 1:
Nairobi to Tsavo East – Entering the Land of Giants
We are departing Nairobi after breakfast, driving southeast on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. You are watching the landscape transform into the iconic African savannah as we approach the vast wilderness of Tsavo. You are entering Tsavo East National Park through the Buchuma Gate and immediately beginning your first game drive en route to your lodge. You are keeping an eye out for dust-red elephants, lions, and the impressive Yatta Plateau. You are arriving at your lodge in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive visiting the Mudanda Rock, a natural water catchment that attracts vast herds of wildlife.
Day 2:
Full Day Exploring Tsavo East – Red Earth And Rolling Plains
Today, you are dedicating the full day to exploring Tsavo East’s diverse habitats. After an early breakfast, we are venturing out on a morning game drive towards the Galana River, the park’s lifeblood. You are searching for crocodiles, hippos, and animals coming to drink. You are visiting the scenic Lugard Falls, where white-water rapids rush through fascinating rock formations. We are returning to the lodge for lunch and a midday rest. In the afternoon, we are exploring different sectors, perhaps spotting the elusive gerenuk or massive buffalo herds before enjoying a sundowner against the backdrop of Tsavo’s iconic red sunset.
Day 3:
Tsavo East to Tsavo West – Crossing to Volcanic Landscapes
You are enjoying one last morning game drive in Tsavo East before breakfast. We are then checking out and beginning our transfer to Tsavo West National Park. The drive itself is an adventure, showcasing the changing terrain. You are entering Tsavo West and heading straight to the remarkable Mzima Springs. Here, you are walking along the boardwalks, watching hippos submerge and schools of fish dart through the crystal-clear waters from an underwater viewing tank , a truly unique experience. You are then checking into your lodge in Tsavo West for relaxation and dinner.
Day 4:
Exploring Tsavo West’s Wonders – Craters and Rhinos
We are starting the day with a game drive towards the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, a heavily protected area where you are having an excellent chance of spotting the critically endangered black rhino. Afterwards, we are exploring the park’s volcanic history at the Shetani Lava Flow. You are walking across this vast, black volcanic rock formation, feeling the raw power of nature, and exploring the nearby Shetani Caves. In the afternoon, you are taking a scenic drive to Poacher’s Lookout for breathtaking panoramic views of the wilderness below. We are ending the day with a relaxed game drive back to the lodge.
Day 5:
Final Safari And Return to Nairobi
You are savoring your final morning in the wild with an early game drive. We are perhaps visiting the Chaimu Crater for a short, rewarding hike to see the morning light spread across the plains. You are returning to the lodge for a hearty breakfast before we begin our journey back to Nairobi. We are enjoying a final look at the majestic landscapes and reflecting on the contrasting beauty of the two Tsavos.
