Vacation331795109728 December 2025Thanks to our great guide/game driver Ouma.... Onze eerste dag safari start in Nairobi National Park waar wij bijna alle ‘big five’ hebben gespot. Wij hebben de Sheldrick Wildlife Trust bezocht waar ze baby wees olifantjes en neushoorns opvangen. Heel veel respect voor de toegewijde verzorgers van deze met uitsterven bedreigde dieren! Ons bezoek was al sinds een 2-tal maanden gereserveerd (is een must!). Je krijgt er de mogelijkheid om een wees olifantje te adopteren, wat wij dan ook gedaan hebben. Haar naam is Kipekee 😊Onze trip kon al niet meer mislukken… Maar wat we niet wisten was, dat het nog beter ging worden. Wij zijn vanuit Nairobi Wilson Airport vertrokken richting Maasai Mara. Onze gids/game driver Ouma stond ons op te wachten. Na een korte kennismaking zijn we vertrokken over de hobbelige wegen door de wilde natuur. Wat een belevenis! Wij logeerden in unieke tenten (Mara Crossing Lodge) en waanden ons echt in ‘Out of Africa). Onze 2 dagen in de Maasai Mara zijn voorbij gevlogen dank zij onze geweldige gids. Ouma heeft ons ontzettend veel bijgeleerd over het leven van de dieren in de wilde natuur. Na de 2de dag hebben we onze tocht verder gezet richting Lake Naivasha. Onze lodge (The Sopa) lag aan het Lake Naivasha waar wij een geweldige zonsondergang hebben gehad. Toen we na het diner naar onze lodge gingen, stonden giraffen en zebra’s ons op te wachten. Een machtig gevoel om deze mooie dieren van zo dichtbij te mogen passeren…. Vanuit Naivasha zijn we terug vertrokken richting Nairobi… Sinds jaren stond ‘on top of my bucketlist’ een bezoek aan de Giraffe Manor te Nairobi. A dream came true!!! Aan de rand van de grootstad staat een Engelse Manor omringd door een betoverende mooie groene tuin waarin de giraffen in al hun glorie rondwandelen. Een unieke belevenis toen de giraffen ons ’s morgens kwamen wakker maken door de vensters, na ons ontbijt mochten wij deze gracieuze dieren ook hun favoriete snoepjes geven. Wat hebben wij hiervan genoten!!! Een welgemeende ‘dank u’ aan onze lieve en attente gids/game driver Ouma! Wij kregen op al onze vragen een degelijk antwoord, hij was steeds heel beleefd en gedienstig, was niet opdringerig, …. Kortom, wij konden ons geen betere gids inbeelden! Hopelijk kruisen onze wegen nog eens…..Our first day of safari started in Nairobi National Park, where we spotted almost all of the ‘big five’. We visited the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, where they care for orphaned baby elephants and rhinos. We have so much respect for the dedicated carers of these endangered animals! We had booked our visit two months in advance (it’s a must!). You also have the opportunity to adopt an orphaned elephant, which we did. Her name is Kipekee 😊Our trip couldn't go wrong... But what we didn't know was that it was going to get even better. We left Nairobi Wilson Airport for Maasai Mara. Our guide/game driver Ouma (Eric) was waiting for us. After a brief introduction, we set off on the bumpy roads through the wild countryside. What an experience! We stayed in unique tents (Mara Crossing Lodge) and really felt like we were in ‘Out of Africa’. Our two days in the Maasai Mara flew by thanks to our wonderful guide. Ouma taught us so much about the life of animals in the wild. After the second day, we continued our journey to Lake Naivasha. Our lodge (The Sopa) was located on Lake Naivasha, where we enjoyed a magnificent sunset. When we returned to our lodge after dinner, giraffes and zebras were waiting for us. It was a powerful feeling to be able to pass these beautiful animals so closely. From Naivasha, we headed back to Nairobi... For years, a visit to the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi had been at the top of my bucket list. A dream came true!!! On the outskirts of the big city stands an English manor surrounded by an enchantingly beautiful green garden where giraffes roam in all their glory. It was a unique experience when the giraffes came to wake us up in the morning through the windows. After breakfast, we were also allowed to feed these graceful animals their favorite treats. We enjoyed it so much!!! A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to our lovely and attentive guide/game driver Ouma! He answered all our questions thoroughly, was always very polite and helpful, was not pushy, ... In short, we couldn't have imagined a better guide! Hopefully our paths will cross again...
